Family archives

The Boissevain family archives are housed under number 394 in the Municipal Archives of Amsterdam (Netherlands), where they are at deposit for public interest. The records of the Boissevain family cover about 25 metres of shelving of correspondence, documents, films and pictures. Via a printed inventory in the Dutch language, in which you will find all the records over the period 1556 - 1992, it is easy to get access to the archival material (free of charge). All the records that are added after 1992 are registered too of course. The inventory is for sale at the Municipal Archives of Amsterdam.

Portraits of the Boissevain family

When (descendants of deceased) members of the family want to hand over material to add to the family records they can contact the Municipal Archives of Amsterdam directly or via the members of the board of the Boissevain Foundation. The records of the Boissevain family are not only used for research into the history of the family, but also by historians and authors who are interested in the economic, social or political history of the Netherlands (sometimes also abroad). For instance publications have been issued on Jan Boissevain (Steamship Company Netherlands), Charles Boissevain (Algemeen Handelsblad, De Gids), Adolphe Boissevain (North American Railroads), Walrave Boissevain (Alderman City of Amsterdam) and Mies Boissevain - van Lennep (Second World War).

Company archives

The Boissevain company archive is also housed in the Municipal Archives of Amsterdam under number 647, where you can study it free of charge. The records of the Boissevain company cover about 10 metres of shelving of documents:
